* 19 shades of Appletons crewel wool

YOU WILL ALSO NEED
* 50cm (20”) wide slate frame, 90cm x 1.5cm (36” x 5/8”) wide cotton tape, strong thread for lacing

A 40cm (16”) embroidery hoop with deep sides and the inner ring bound.

Traditional crewel work is a feast of exotic flowers and fanciful foliage.
Crewel embroidery was often used to decorate large bed hangings with extravagant floral patterns and I wanted Scarlet Glory to look as if it is perhaps a fragment of a much larger piece. The colour palette of burnt orange, terra cotta and pinks gives it a warm, contemporary appearance.
The embroidery is stitched onto Italian linen, using 25 different embroidery stitches to create different textures and patterns within the design. The detailed instructions and diagrams will help guide you step by step through the project however, you might find it helpful to have a stitch directory at hand.
