On the 5th and 6th August 2019 Anna Scott will be teaching her crewelwork design Scarlet Glory. This is an ideal project for all levels of embroiderers, and a great chance, if you are inexperienced in crewel embroidery, to learn this technique. This is a two day class.
The embroidery design measures 25cm (10") square.
Crewel embroidery was traditionally used to decorate soft furnishings, especially large bed hangings in extravagant floral patterns. The scrolling stems, exotic flowers and fantastical foliage of traditional Jacobean crewelwork lend themselves beautifully to inventive and playful stitching. There is almost no limit to the choice of stitches and stitch combinations that can be used for these types of designs, making it a fun and varied style of embroidery to enjoy.
Anna wanted Scarlet Glory to look as if it is perhaps a fragment of a much larger piece. The colour palette of burnt orange, terra cotta and pinks gives it a warm, contemporary appearance. The design is embroidered onto Italian linen, using 25 different embroidery stitches to create different textures and patterns within the design. You will learn these stitches in the workshop and as well you will receive comprehensive instructions so that you can complete the project at home.
As with all of our classes morning/afternoon tea and lunch are provided - please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements.
Tuition fee is $215.00 for 2 days plus kit cost of $105.00.
Please confirm your place in this workshop with a deposit of $50.00 as class numbers are limited to 12. Final payment is required by the 15th June 2019 due to airline bookings being made.
Workshops at Allthreads are limited in size to a maximum of 12 students. We are happy to take expressions of interest where the workshop details are not yet finalised however once they are finalised and open for enrolment, your place is not guaranteed without full or part payment.
Please consider carefully which workshops you wish to enrol for as all deposits paid are non-refundable unless the class is cancelled by Allthreads. The complete fee must be paid before the workshop and dates for final payments are set out above. We can arrange a Payment Plan for you if this is of benefit to you.
If a workshop is cancelled by Allthreads, all tuition fees paid including all deposits will be fully refunded. If for any reason you cancel after the final date for payment, you are liable for the full fee unless we can fill your place from a waiting list. If we can fill your place, we will refund all fees paid except the non-refundable deposit. Any unsold places will be filled first before filling spots made available by cancellation. There is no guarantee that your place can be resold. We are happy for you to make your own arrangements for someone else to attend in your place.
These arrangements have been put in place to benefit everyone involved as last minute cancellations have an adverse impact on the tutors, the shop and fellow students especially if a class has to be cancelled at the 11th hour
