In my dozen or so years of collecting antique samplers, I have never been fortunate enough to find historical information about the original stitcher. When I spotted this unfinished and rather grubby antique sampler, I was intrigued by the inclusion of a town name along with a birth year and some other names. I tried to keep my hopes from getting too high as I typed the information into the search form on ancestry.com. Oh, the joy! when I found our dear little stitcher listed there, beyond a shadow of a doubt. Thank you, dear little Jane, for including these important details in your sampler; this modern stitcher is enchanted by the hints of the life you lived so long ago.

Because Jane didn't finish her sampler, I chose to fill in the open spaces with words and motifs that I thought she would have stitched, were she to continue.
