FAQ

Postal charges are calculated using Australia Post Distance charges for both domestic and international deliveries.

Orders over $85.00 (excluding frames and lights) are posted free of charge if sent ordinary mail.
If you require your parcel to be sent by Express Post please indicate this by choosing this option when ordering. Express Post are higher however delivery for Express Satchels and envelopes is usually 1 -2 days.

Registration and insurance are also available on request. Please advise us if you wish to use these options. Higher charges will apply for these services and we will send a separate quote if these options are requested.

We are happy to accept orders of any size and therefore do not have a minimum or maximum charge for postage/delivery. All orders will be treated on an individual basis and standard Australia Post charges will be applied according to weight, size and destination. Please note that you will only be charged actual postage rates quoted and applied by Australia Post. There is no handling charge by us.

If you are ordering only one or two threads and they will fit in an envelope, please contact us and we can arrange for them to be posted that way and not in a satchel. Our website cannot differentiate between the items that will or will not fit in an envelope so if you are concerned about the postage you are being charged through the website, please contact us by email or phone.

Unfortunately we do NOT have control over Australia Post services so once a parcel is posted, we have no control over its delivery. If posted within Australia and as a parcel we will provide you with a tracking number so that you can contact Australia Post if it is not delivered in a timely manner.

Overseas orders are are tracked and we will supply you with a tracking number once the parcel has been posted. Customers can keep up to date with delivery through the Australia Post website. Customers are responsible for any fees/duties payable on arrival of your order. If the fees are not paid, or the item not claimed and it is returned to us as sender, there will be no refund given for postage.

What is a Fat Quarter and a Fat Half of fabric?

If sold by the metre - A fat quarter of fabric is a fabric piece that measures 50cm x 1/2 the width of the fabric.

In the case of Aida, this is usually 50 x 55cm. In the case of linen it is 50 x 70cm.

A fat half of fabric is a fabric piece that measures 100 x 1/2 the width of the fabric.

In the case of Aida this is a fabric piece that measures 100 x 55cm

In the case of linen it measures 100 x 70cm.

If the fabric is sold by the yard (this is the case for fabrics imported from the US and most hand dyed fabrics) then for Aida a fat quarter measures 18" x 21" and a fat half measures 36" x 21".

For Linen by the years, a fat quarter will measure 18" x 26" and a fat half will measure 36" x 26".

Do you sell Hand Dyed fabrics in small pieces

Generally we do not sell small pieces of hand dyed fabrics. Most of our hand dyed fabrics are imported and we sell them b the fat half.

We do this because in the dyeing process there is often shrinkage of the fabric, which before it is dyed is overlocked. This results in a smaller piece of fabric that the usual size and often a piece that is not straight on the grain.

When we cut fabrics at Allthreads we always pull a thread so if we are cutting smaller pieces from a larger piece that is not straight the result is a piece of linen that is "skewed" and not necessarily a workable size.

I therefore order all hand dyed pieces from our suppliers in precut lengths, and while from time to time we have fat quarters available, most hand dyed linens will be in fat half lengths.

Do you ship overseas?

International orders are sent daily to most countries around the world. We use Australia Post (unless you request otherwise) and all parcels are sent with tracking. Insurance is an option and if your order is valuable to you, then we suggest that you take out insurance.

Your local customs service may require you to pay duties, fees, and / or taxes upon arrival of your order. You as purchaser is responsible for any applicable fees..

I am ordering just a couple of skeins, can they be sent in an envelope?

We are very happy to post threads in an envelope without tracking if you are happy to have them sent without tracking.

We can also send a few threads with tracking in an express envelope.

Unfortunately our website cannot distinguish between items that will fit in an envelope and those that cannot, and so if you want your items sent this way, please call the shop on 07 33985540 and we can do this for you.

Do you have classes or workshops scheduled?

Since COVID we have not offered classes or workshops at Allthreads and at this stage, none are scheduled for the immediate future.

The Embroiderers' Guild of Queensland offers a range of classes and stitching groups and there are a number of private teachers in Brisbane, if you are looking to join a group, learn embroidery or improve your skills. Give us a call if you would like further information about this.

If and when classes resume at Allthreads, announcements will be made in our newsletter on our Social Media pages and on on our Allthreads Community Facebook page.
