This sampler and that of Sarah Chesters 1843, so very similar in design and motifs, must have been done by relatives, sharing not only the same last name and year stitched but also the same pattern, thread and linen colors.

At first thinking they perhaps were sisters, a search revealed the discovery that they most probably were mother and daughter. The mottos chosen on each are reflectively appropriate sentiments for a mother and child. It is a cheery thought to envision the pair stitching together, the daughter learning in imitation alongside her mum, while being given the freedom of her own creative expression.

Fabric used in model: 36 count Eureka by Fox and Rabbit Designs. Original design was stitched on 32ct linen. This sampler can be stitched with the thread of your choice. Colour options of  DMC, Cosmo stranded cotton and Needlepoint Inc,  and Au ver a soie silks provided. Stitch count 161 x 170.
